Flat pack of front cover ideas

All of the front covers i have analysed have large images of their main story on the front, I am keeping with this so my readers know what my main atricle and theme throughout will be the news of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. However all of the covers anaylsed also had very busy covers, my flat plans here are not too busy, the first one i like the most out of all three flat plans. This is because it is not as busy as the others and focuses on the main story. The first plan also has a kind of cosmopolitan touch to it, the text used in the front cover is also like the cover of 'Q' i analysed with the scribbled font in blue over the top of the main image. I feel the last flat plan i have made is too busy with all three headers as well at the bottom of the cover, i feel it is a bit too much. I like the circle text box feature in  my second flat plan so i think i will deffinatly use a feature like this.

Pitch

Name- Airwaves
At First i was thinking of Medley (As medley means three tryes of music combined and mine is alternate, indie and rock) but then i realised i wanted to make mine like NME, So i was just thinking of AIR for 'alternative indie rock' Like NME at the start it will not be well known for what it stands for as in 'new musical express' so they named it the full name untill it was well known as a popular brand. I think that Alternative Indie Rock would not really be very creative so i then came up with Airwaves. (Soundwaves)

Genre- Alternative Indie Rock

Target Audience- 16-24 Females

Style/Attitude- Vintage, Cute, Feminine

Outline of Contents-  page 3, Interview with the red hot chilli peppers (DPS) page 5, Twelve fashion must have's for 2012 (cute feminine clothes vintage HOT NEW TRENDS FOR SPRING)  pages 6 & 7 (advertisement for asos.com)  page 8, Bands who are going to make it BIG this year! page 9, (advertisement for converse) Page 10,11, 12&13 Music moments of 2011 (The moments that made us music mad in the last year) page 14, Live it leeds fest! Then speak about what happened with the split, and where they have been since there last album of stadium arcadium. Speak about the finding of there new member and how they feel about that, talk about there recent tour, new album and there very busy year of 2011 and the future plans for 2012. Also a small little profile introducing the new member Josh.

Airwaves is a new magazine aimed for mainly females of the age range of 16-24.  It will cover all aspects of indie rock music. Looking at new bands who are expected to be future well known bands to all music lovers of this kind. We will be reviewing gigs, albums and have plenty of interview with some of the hottest new acts in the live lounge. It will be set out neat and girly using a nice range of colours, also with a vintage theme of photography. My double page spread will be an interview of the new band member of The Red Hot Chili Peppers who i went to see not so long ago talking about his experience with the band and how joining the band has impacted on his life, and whether he likes the experience of taking over the role of previous well loved band members.

My Magazine Reader

My magazine reader is a 18 year old female from York. She has just finished college studying a levels, doing textiles, art, english and photography. On a weekend she has a part time job working at Topshop. She has just applied at university for a creative course. She is very passionate about photography and in her spare time,  at the weekend she works on her photography portfolio with her boyfriend. She also has a good close group of 'girl friends' who often meen up in town to look in vintage shops of a good bargain of some high fashion items! Then going to Starbucks to discuss 'boyfriends' and upcoming music events. Her style is unique and fashion is very important to her and her girls.Music leads a great influence on the group of friends, as when together they discuss new bands in the indie industry and talk about old classics like Red Hot Chilli Peppers! Her boyfriend has been teaching her how to play the guitar which she has always been wanting to learn. She goes to many gigs and festivals and enjoys the atmosphere at these events, with her circle of friend/boyfriends friends, and is a very creative, happy and artistic individual.

Feedback

I got feedback on my mood board today. People mainly commented on my colour scheme and said that is what they liked the most. The colour scheme from Florance and the Machines album cover Lungs, inspired me on my colour choice and i think it works on the indie/female genre. I should have made it more clear by explaining on my mood board why i made the choices for all of these to make people understand my first idea's.
My only negative comments are that its hard to tell what genre my magazine is. I feel that if i had provided a pitch for people to read it would have helped them see that its alternative indie/rock. I am aiming to make it like a female version of NME. Through research i have seen that the bands i have used on my mood board will be seen in magazines such as NME. I agree that it is unclear so i am going to upload my pitch soon :)
People also spoke about my range of fonts used and said that they are eye catching.

my mood board :)

I would kind of like to make a magazine similar to NME, but focusing mainly for females.

Examples of other front covers

Once again they have not used the same colour scheme we would have expected for this genre. As this is a magazine i have not analysed i am not sure if this is the norm for this brand. In the image they used only two members, one being the new band member. They both have a guitar in the image and are again using bright colours which as bright colours seem to be used often with the band i might use it too. The masthead used starts of with ''the adventures of..'' which as inside they discuss the history and the journey they have been on, i think it is also a play on words as it is the name of their new single.

Examples of other front covers

I like this front cover as i like how they have moved away from the typical red white and blacks. They use bright colours aswell like blue and yellow. They have done this because people in the band are wearing these colours for examples, Flea's hair and Chads hat. This front cover does not have much text related to the main image, but it does show the new members of the band so people will probably buy this to read more into that.

How i aim to feminise my magazine.

Most music magazine's are aimed for the male audience. NME, Q and Mojo all have mainly male audiences. I am wanting to make my magazine to the similar genre to these magazine names. I am going to do this by making women more superior to men throughtout, and use features like female magazines like 'Cosmopolitan.' In this magazine they use images of men and female colours like pastel colours. Also the language used in Cosmopolitan is very chatty to suit us females, and use a lot of words that put confidence into girls. I am also wanting to use photography through out my magazine to give a feminine touch, i want my photographs to look well set and staged, and give a sence of fashion through my shots.

Media Pack research

17th November 2011
Last Monday we made our survey monkey and i advertised it on facebook to get my primary data. I have had a few replies but i am going to leave it till next week till i analyse.
I have started analysing and looking at media packs to try and gain information for my 'ideal reader' for my magazine, looking at target audience.
I am going to see Red Hot Chilli peppers tonight so i am going to borrow a camera from media and try and get a good photo for my front cover of my magazine. (As we have to take our own photos.)
I have been thinking about idea's and want to do my double page spread on the concert tonight. They have been going for a long time and are well known so i would like to make band history, facts and like a profile of the new member of the band.
I am also planning on interviewing my friend who i am going with tonight as he is in to the kind of music genre i am planning on making my magzine.

Survey Monkey Analysis

The main people answering my survey are those from my target audience. Which is good as it confirms the rest of my questions will be valid to my target audience age range.

Again i have more females than males responding to my survey. Which is good as i am wanting to make my magazine more appealing to females. (A girls version of NME) so again i know my feedback represents mainly from my target audeince.

Unfortunatly not many people from my study don't read music magazines. However from the people that do read music magazines do read indie magazines, also dance and pop music being popular. In my magazine i could plan on involving popular indie artists who will most probably be seen in the charts for example, Ed Sheeran.
In the question i found out that what most people like doing is hanging out with mates and listening to music. This shows that music will mean a lot to people. Also i think that people with hang around with people who like similar music. In my magazine i could find out about partciular music events that my target audience will be intrested in and talk about them and maybe advertise group tickets that will be cheaper if they buy them through the magazines. So they can go with there friends together. Also someone had said photography. I am wanting to involve some intresting vintage photography that maybe will be interesting and add more colour and feeling to my pages.

The one that gained the most with ten was ''interviews with artists'' which is good as that is what i am planning for my double page spread. Weekly download charts scored eight, i dont feel that a weekly chart would be good enough for a double page spread in my magazine as it would involve other music genre's too. Gig reviews scored the least which is strange as in question nine someone has said that gig reviews would make them more likely to buy the magazine.
The price i have chosen for my magazine is £1.50. I have chosen this to suit my audience, as less than £3.00 is the most common price found.
My magazine is a monthly magazine, again to suit the target audience.

12th November 2011

Today i went to Tesco's to take some pictures of contents pages and double page spreads (DPS). I did this because it was hard to find images on the internet with a good quality to put on my analysis powerpoint. Tonight i am going to analyse them on my powerpoint and finish it for Monday :)

9th November 2011

Today is the second lesson we have had starting our coursework. We need to start doing market research. I have started doing my powerpoint on analysing magazines. In activitys we have done today i realised i didnt know many music magazines, just genre's of music. So i did some research into it today.
When we first got the task i originally wanted to make my magazine for a target audience like the magazines i read, for like young adults who are female. I realised they arent really many music magazines for them who i could stye model my work on. So today in my powerpoint i have been analysing NME magazine.
I did have an idea of turning my friend into a singer, but from looking at NME i thought doing a magazine like something from that genre would be good. I am going to see red hot chilli peppers next week when they are on tour so i was thinking i could do something like that? Going to get thinking more whilst doing my research on good ideas so hopefully i will think of some :')
